Call to Action: Attend the August 13th Deliberation (see below)

August 6th City Council Report

Wood Trails and Montevallo
Closed Record Hearing Oral Testimony

On August 6th CNW brought the R-1 Rezone and the Wood Trails/Montevallo proposed developments in front of the Woodinville City Council. This was the City Council’s first and only opportunity in three years to hear from its constituents. An overflow crowd listened to more than six hours of oral testimony by the attorneys and citizens. Attendees were organized, attentive, and determined to resolve these issues without compromise to our quality of life or environment.

A Show of Hands, Please

High Density Housing

Citizens were 32:1 against the proposed rezone and housing developments. Speakers, while impassioned, presented themselves well and with restraint, adhering tightly to the requirement that only testimony previously submitted to the Hearing Examiner be presented. Speakers made arguments polished by three years’ practice. Our thanks go to our expert-speaker-author-neighbors Otto Paris (geotech), Matt Schultz (hydrogeology), Susan Boundy-Sanders (landslides), Steve Gottschalk (statistical land use), Matt Jenson (land use), Roger Mason (traffic), and Kerri Scarbrough (environment). These individuals have given freely of their time, money, and expertise to further our cause. Watch the proceedings on the City’s website

Mr. Rick Aramburu, the attorney for CNW, made it clear “it’s not what the developer’s attorney was saying, it was what he wasn’t saying that mattered”. Our elected officials are being called on to make decisions of unprecedented weight. They must grasp legal verbiage such as “probably”, “vested”, and “estoppel”. The Council’s obligation to resolve conflicting presentations will be difficult, but CNW’s organized presentation of the facts will help them make a good decision.

8-13-07 at 6 PM--The Big Decision—Come & See!

The next step, and perhaps the most important, is the August 13th Council public and executive deliberations. (Executive means behind closed doors so bring something to bide your time for these minutes). The Council may make a decision as soon as that night. A good showing in the City Chambers is vital although the public will no longer be allowed to comment…be sure to come!

What We Need Now

These development issues are at the heart of CNW and would not have been brought before the Council without CNW. We have worked long representing those who live in Wellington or similarly targeted areas in the R-1. We need your financial support as well as your moral and verbal support. Think of your membership in CNW as belonging to a neighborhood organization with annual dues.

Legal battles can get very expensive at this point. Your neighbors, in the form of CNW, have given years and dollars for a long time. If you’ve given before, you join roughly 170 households who have. If you haven’t, it’s your turn in exchange for the wonderful quality of life we have in Wellington. If you’re not from Wellington, or even the city of Woodinville, you could still be next, and CNW’s efforts should be your efforts. Please mail your checks to CNW at P.O. Box 2968 * Woodinville WA 98072-2968 …. Your donation records are kept confidential.
