Updates on Several Important Topics

White-crowned Sparrow Photo

Dear Woodinville Friends and Neighbors,

Here’s news on several important topics:

  1. Snohomish County Park public comments (aka the new proposal for Wellington Hills Golf Course)
  2. CNW Signs and the City of Woodinville
  3. Status update on zoning code changes that impact all R-1 zoned areas in and around Woodinville

Snohomish County Park Public Meetings

You may know that the Wellington Hills Golf Course lands (formerly owned by the U of W) have now been sold to Snohomish County Parks and Recreation. What you may not know is that Snohomish County is holding a series of public meetings to invite comment from citizens on how the land may be developed. The land acquisition relates to contract language in the building of Brightwater Sewage Treatment Plant that specifies a park with a minimum of 4 fields and overhead lighting be established. However, details as to the exact location of that park, what kind of fields, and what kind of “park” are items into which citizens could have a huge impact. This is a chance for YOU to have an impact on how our neighborhood parks are being developed! Get involved:
  1. Send email to James Yap at jyap@snoco.org with your thoughts and ask to be added as a Party of Record to be informed of future public meetings. James is also looking for input on what sorts of animals have been spotted in this area – if you have a list of neighborhood creatures you’ve been tracking over the years, please email it to James!

  2. Become an advocate to bring together households in both Snohomish and King County to help direct how this park gets developed. While the park “sits” in Snohomish County, decisions will impact the City of Woodinville, houses around the quiet, peaceful golf course, and could impact the overall wooded character of the hill above Costco. CNW Neighborhood Signs and the City of Woodinville

Recently, the City of Woodinville picked up some CNW signs that had been set out to inform neighbors of CNW’s existence and our mission to protect the R-1 areas. CNW has asked the City to provide full details on why the signs were taken. As of this writing, we have not received a formal response from the city and we will follow up with the City to ensure that a response is received. All the signs have been returned to CNW and the recap posted in the Woodinville Patch recently is the most up-to-date news we have on this topic. Please refer to our CNW web site and these emails for the latest news in issues impacting the R-1-zoned areas of greater Woodinville.

Residential Density Incentives and the Transfer of Residential Credits in Land Use and Development

On Tuesday, June 5, the City Council will continue the Public Hearing to hear citizen input on zoning. The language of the Woodinville Municipal Code that’s included in ZCA11003 Review of Residential Density represent several important issues to anyone living in or around the greater Woodinville area in R-1 or larger lot sizes (R-1 is one residential dwelling per acre). Citizens are encouraged to attend this meeting (if you can) as showing up in person helps demonstrate to the City Council and city staff our ongoing support for language that protects the R-1 zoning and leaves it as is.

In your service, protecting the R-1 zoned neighborhoods,

Your CNW Board

P.S. Thank you for your continued financial support and for your advocacy to one another. Please help add others to our email list – as a unified voice of input to the City we enhance our ability to have impact.
